Rhydyfelin FAS
The project site is located at Rhydyfelin, Pontypridd, South Wales, 15km North West of Cardiff.
The site has suffered from extreme flooding event's in recent years. Due to the nature of the area consisting of residential area's, recreational area's and school's it was awarded funding for flood defence measures.
McCarthy's Role
Various Work's Including
As the main earthworks/channel contractor on the site McCarthy's carried out all of the following activities for the project: -
- Construction of flood storage via surface ponds
- Modifying culvert inlets to increase flows into the culvert systems
- Upgrading, replacing and rehabilitating sections of the culvert systems in the vicinity of Glyntaff Farm Estate
- Construction of relief pipes to alleviate surcharge within the existing culverts
- Replacing culvert grids with new debris grids
- Upgrading of open channels; varying details including rock lined channels, rock & concrete lined channels etc
- Construction of various access footpaths/tracks including 'Bodpave' detail
- Service diversions & ducting
- Filter drains
